I have known heat that left marks
The kind I reached for because
For a moment the pain of fire
Was louder than that of heartache
But there is a different kind of heat
The kind that heals us
From the inside out
An invisible blaze
That doesn’t scorch the skin
But warms the parts of you
That ask you to
Keep breathing in
And reminds you
What living was always
Supposed to feel like
Maybe this is the fire
We were always meant to hold
Not the kind that leaves you
Feeling like a body full of ash
But the one that teaches your soul
To believe in the warmth of being loved

The architecture of this poem is stunning. You’ve contrasted two types of fire—one that consumes and one that illuminates—so masterfully. The pivot from ‘body full of ash’ to a soul learning to ‘believe in the warmth’ feels like the emotional core of real recovery. It’s a quiet, powerful testament to the fact that sometimes the bravest thing we can do is let ourselves be held by something gentle.
