Tick, tick, tick, tick
The ticking has teeth
Biting, gnawing, jagged
Razor sharp clicks
Piercing rationality
Tick, tick, tick, tick
Silk strands of insanity
Weave discourse
Into complex patterns
Warping sound reason
Tick, tick, tick, tick
Logic sits positioned
On a hairline trigger
Adrenaline unloads
Clouding all clarity
Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick
An emotional time bomb
With a quick pulse for a fuse
And a detonator heart
I am begging…
Disarm me please
You just need to know how to run the gas through the lines.

If I knew which wire to cut, I would.

Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Slow.
My breathing is steady
My hands won’t shake
Let’s have some space
Stand back and let me work
Tick. Tick. Tick. Slow.
You won’t detonate
I’ve a lifetime’s experience
At diffusing your kind.
Be still and trust me.
Tick….tick….slow…
I’ll unwind wiry anxiety
And hair-trigger moments
Let me whisper clarity
Realign that jangled logic
Tick…..slow…..slow…..
We’ll step back together
Freed of the sudden fuse
Observe my handiwork
And see the bigger picture
Slow…..Slow….Slow….
Pieces will fall back into place
Ruffled feathers will be smoothed
And somehow, someway,
I promise all will be well.
