MOST OF THE TIME IT’S COLORS

My poetry prompt for NaPoWriMo and Cheer Peppers is an oil pastel drawing I did years ago and gave to a friend as a gift for her son.

I can feel it under my skin

Most of the time it’s colors

Jade and sea foam blue

It can be musical hues

Wearing dancing shoes

It can be jazz tones

With electric gold cues

But when I don’t feel it

There is a buzzing

Like an invisible thread

Pulling all the layers

So tightly together

I swear I’ll be cut

Into a billion tiny cubes
