FACE BLIND

My poetry prompt for NaPoWriMo and Cheer Peppers is a large acrylic painting I had the audacity to paint.

I’m going to paint over her eventually because she’s miles away from what I wanted to paint. But I feel like I discovered a truth about myself last night that might help me paint future faces differently.

FACE BLIND

I didn’t see the lines

Writing your name

Across your face

Nor the various shades

Of eye or cheek

Of smile or frown

I can’t see past

The shapes

That distinguish you

But I love you

Your voice

Your movement

The kindness

And the comfort

The feeling of you

I promise

I know you

But out of context

I lose you
