THE DIARY

My poetry prompt for NaPoWriMo and Cheer Peppers is the first dreamscape painting I ever did and it hangs on my mom’s wall.

It’s called the Night Ballet.

It’s about a ballerina nobody wanted because she didn’t look like ballerinas are supposed to look. But it’s ok because she finds a place she can be herself and joyfully dance with others like her. It’s a peaceful sunset place where each night they perform a Night Ballet for a very happy crowd.

I had a diary

Not filled with wishes

No dreams, no hopes

No forbidden loves

Or regrets, or burdens

I used Harold’s crayon

The purple one

To walk to mars

I’d meet Marco

On Mulberry street

And we caught cats

And dressed them all

In fairy costumes

I’d go to work

In River City Iowa

Where everyone

Blew air trumpets

And played drums

On busy desks

And real music

Would fill the air

I wrote about my days

In fantastical ways

Embellished them

Learning from Kermit

And Big Bird too

It’s how I learned

To dream big dreams

And to live fully

Inside all of the wonderful

Impossibilities
