My list of observances occurred on Sept 1 of 2003
The house is too quiet.
I go to chart my cycle and think I can’t do this anymore.
I notice a woman with three children as I buy my last pregnancy test.

I cry as I watch my husband learn to walk, mourning my decision to stop trying to get pregnant.
I have been charting my cycle for a year with little dots fueling my desires. We don’t talk about my expectations so it will be easier for me to bury them as they die.
