There is a phrase I say to myself quite often and it is that we were never promised easy.

I say that when I’m struggling. When I am feeling sorrow. When things are completely off the rails uncertain. I’m not sure where it came from but it has to be from my Christian faith.

Jesus didn’t promise us a life without sorrow, struggle, or uncertainty. He promised that we would not be alone in it and we could find grace, courage, peace, and hope in him.

I think about that while I’m creating art. A piece rarely comes together the way I imagine. Sometimes I have to sit with the uncertainty, work through the layers, and trust that I will find something that speaks to me in the end.

We may not know how the whole picture will look and we don’t need to for something meaningful to take shape.
