Written by Matticus and Hastywords
Rogue waves gather their strength and formidable reserves,
Hiding amongst lesser brethren, stealthily approaching,
Caring nothing for fairness, they know nothing of deserve,
Emotionlessly crush, sending their victims reeling.
Whitecaps surface indicating turbulent seas mixing unseen
As hope drowns beneath currents that swim headlong into reefs
My heart lies underneath all this tempestuous algae of green
Inside the muck accumulating in the undertow, where life slows
Distanced from the raging storm, though still held in its thrall,
The chill of the dark water saps the strength from my limbs,
The world of light slips away, I’m pulled deeper under tide’s fall,
Washed from shore as penance for my secret waking sins.
Power surges inside each pulsing flux carrying broken debris
Feeding the angst of all its pieces into a chaotic churning fury
Turning itself into the tidal wave of a formidable angry sea
It carries itself forward towards the waiting judge and jury
Desperate hands rise up to flail in failed protection,
The final act against the water’s icy grasp is futile,
An instinct, stronger than fear, of self-preservation,
The all-encompassing embrace disallows any denial.
Love the sea imagery… the sea is so powerful… an elemental force… wish I had been in on this… oooohhhh… have you tried doing a three or four person poem???

I should have guessed you’d like the sea imagery! I haven’t tried doing a three or four person poem… I’m game if Hasty is. We could even do something else ocean related if you want.

Oceans are so powerful… so ever changing… where all life began…

This was incredible!!! I could feel it… in every word. I nearly drowned at the end. You are a spectacular writer!

Hasty is a spectacular writer, yes. All the good words are hers. I just filled in here and there. 😉

Understanding the imagery, truthfully painful, however would you not be feeding resentment?

Feeding resentment? I’m not sure I follow.
Poetic duets often take on a life of their own. We started with an idea of the images we wanted to create, but then the words led us in a different direction… they followed the winds, if you will, to keep up the sea references.

Yes, very true. i am new to poetry, do see how a poem takes on a life of it’s own, once you begin creating… Duet’s are something that i am afraid of writing, however have written a couple with a person whom has started my interest in poetry…

Anyone who has set out in adversarial stance against the seas great overwhelming power has experienced what you wrote, but it takes a great poet, to make you feel it in those brilliant words.
Great job!

*bows* Thank you for the kind words. Though, as I told mel above, I must give credit to Hasty for all the brilliant parts

I love how our duets come out 🙂

Reblogged this on The Matticus Kingdom and commented:
Hasty and I teamed up for a second poetic duet. It’s dark, and flows with the beauty and power of the deep blue sea.

Some very powerful imagery of a very formidable force of nature. Very well done.

I was hit by a sneaker wave just the other day. The Queen and I were playing in the surf with the Little Prince (getting our toes wet) at the beach, and one came in and drenched us all. We were playing safely, of course, so we could laugh it off, but it was a good reminder that the sea has a mind of its own and power we can only dream of.

Very powerful and beautiful. Me, I just can’t do romance because it ends up with feelings like this on my side but not on the guy’s.
I wrote a little something for the “Crush” prompt. It’s technically “fan fiction” (If anyone has aversion to that) but the fan fiction elements are pretty cursory. The focus is on the original characters.

The sea is so beautiful, but also so very deadly. Nice!
